Building to Start in Sierra Leone
Representatives of the Bath office Charity Committee recently travelled to Bakewell to meet with Village Aid to finalise Touchstone's involvement in fund raising to support the work of MMYDA - the Malal-Mara Youth Development Association - in the Tonkolili District of Sierra Leone.
Village Aid strongly believes that African people are best placed to deal with the problems in Africa. Village Aid helps them by providing or channeling resources and capital so they can develop solutions for themselves. Village Aid works closely in partnership with locally based grassroots organizations, like MMYDA, that are at the heart of the communities which they support.
They help to train these organisations in the valuable skills they need to become sustainable and independent in their own right, such as fundraising, management and financial administration. They hope that our partners can go on to become well established organisations, delivering quality programmes within their communities, enabling the most marginalised and vulnerable to break free from poverty.
Touchstone is committed to funding the building of a new office for MMYDA in order that they can increase their output in a wide range of support functions for the local community ranging from literacy to health, training and local micro-investment. Further information can be found via the following link - http://www.villageaid.org/assets/files/MMYDA%20Profile%20for%20Website.pdf and we will keep you informed of progress as the building becomes a reality.
